Nature Will Always Win

Word-tower: Play, Skip, Leap, Jump, Rest

Words of playfulness and wellbeing, again intentionally made in a geometric font, apart from “Rest” which is the bottom form, in a softer font (though unfortunately hidden amongst the undergrowth) and acting as the foundation for all the others. As with the previous piece, “Statistics Manipulate Truths”, I wanted the word-tower to be something that might be ‘discovered’ perhaps by people walking their dog, or just out for a stroll.

Green Man

Initial sketch made of a ‘Green Man’ (also known as ‘Jack ‘o’ Lantern’) probably to be used on a carved wood structure to house tealights. The design uses elements from sketches I made of wooden stumps, swirls and patterns from ancient stone carvings and some traditional carved stones found on many old churches.

Nature Will Win…

“Statistics Manipulate Truths” – large cardboard sculptures placed in a natural setting. The white, geometric, clinical shapes juxtaposed with the unruly, wildness of nature. Nature fights back and will always win… More natural setting to follow.

More Letter Boxes

Continuing the theme of boxes showing letters and words, I have been trying to ‘soften’ up the font to be more appropriate for the word definitions. Words such as ‘joyful’ and ‘gentleness’ need to be less geometric in their design. However, a box with the letters cut out isn’t robust enough so I have decided to mock up a box with the letters ‘carved’ into the faces. This will be developed using wooden blocks and letters standing proud from the background.

Letter Boxes

Latest project – boxes made using letters spelling out the following words related to wellbeing (from the top) Play, Skip, Leap, Jump, Rest. They need spraying.

Fishy Tales

Wood Doodling – all carving finished, sanded, stained (rosewood) and varnished. Placed “in situ” on a background made from varying shades of denim.
