Work in Progress

I’m currently working on two projects: standing structures made of words and some wood carving.

The standing structures, made from cardboard, spell out the words Statistics Manipulate Truths – my reaction to the relentless (and futile) insistence that statistics and data are going to have a huge impact upon the education of young children. Building relationships and a genuine desire to fully understand every individual is what will make the difference…

“Statistics Manipulate Truths”

The wood carvings are based around patterns and shapes found in nature. The theme is “Fishy Tales” and the intention is to have appropriate story starters etched on the back.

Who I Am

I have always been fascinated by contrasts and anomalies: a hippie who pulls off high-end business deals; a heavy metal kid that likes folk music; poppies at the side of the motorway; boundaries that are clearly not recognised. My artistic endeavours attempt to explore such anomalies, be it in music or the visual arts. My current journey sees me taking the theme of “Statistics” and trying to soften a cold, hard concept: putting geometric shapes and patterns into an incongruous, natural setting, making something beautiful and calming from elements concerned only with mathematics and data, bringing together ancient themes and modern environments. Nature always wins…

Grooveware is the creative moniker under which I am currently working, producing both 2D and 3D artwork as well as music in a variety of genres. I work from a studio based at the ‘Rotherham Open Arts Renaissance’ space in Rotherham town centre.
